Casale Sodini-Villa 101

Near Lucca, in the valley of Vorno, is a small paradise called Casale Sodini. This ancient casale, originally used partially as a mill for the family and the few inhabitants of the village and part as a farmhouse, has been beautifully restored. It has no architectural pretenses, is of simple lines, and the materials used in construction are those of the time: stone, hand made bricks, beamed ceilings and terra cotta floors. As was customary, the ground floor was used to house the animals and the family lived upstairs.

The spirit of this place, near a small village just outside of Lucca, lies in its absolute simplicity, and today, even if the mill wheel no longer turns, the timeless ancient atmosphere and flavors are present. Quiet, silence, and serenity is the philosophy of life offered here, as Casale Sodini is brought back to like for your enjoyment. Here are the warm golden afternoons where you can breathe these simple values of the past.

Today, the rooms of the old mill have become intimate and luxurious living rooms, full of warmth and welcome; the old stable on the ground floor is now the dining room where you can admire the vaulted ceiling, the stonework, and other traditional craftsmanship. The large kitchen, entry hall with its large window onto the garden - bringing it inside, the study and a powder room continue in the same rustic but elegant style. Not to be forgotten are the two stone fireplaces which still revive warmth and memories of family gatherings, old stories and friendly conversations. On the upper floor are five double bedrooms with en- suite baths. Three of them face north with views to the hills and the valley and two face south, overlooking the brook and the garden. The master bedroom also has a sitting room.

Furnishings have been carefully and patiently selected during the restoration to provide the utmost in comfort and luxury, with period furniture and splendid accessories. Nothing has been left to chance. The baths are luxurious fitted with tubs and showers. Most importantly - the house has air conditioning. The spacious garden is filled with potted lemons, olive trees, fruit trees and herbs and flowers, all forming a splendid backdrop to the swimming pool. Enjoy conversations under the gazebo, relax by the pool or under the wisteria covered pergola, or dine al fresco in your choice of spots.

Walk, mountain bike, or ride - the estate is yours to be discovered. In keeping with Villa Controni's gentle atmosphere, all of the rooms are elegantly furnished; from the angel frescoed ceiling of the living room and the grand music room, to the arched loggia with views across the camellia garden. The pillars and arches of the entrance hall lead up the staircase to the first floor, where all of the bedroom windows frame a panoramica across Lucca and the surrounding countryside
